Chapter 11 Vitamins [Part 1]
The helicopter landed on the roof of the Polytechnic Teaching Building on the central campus of the Royal Melbourne Polytechnic University. Raul and others went down one after another. Dr. Kahn was already waiting on the roof, ignoring Raul and others, his eyes passed by the lost Terminator and landed on Li Tomb, who was tightly bound by an alloy wire.
"What a perfect masterpiece." A trace of fanaticism flashed in Dr. Kahn's eyes. He couldn't wait to walk forward, put on metal gloves, gently stroked the bone knife on Li Ton's right hand and the bone spurs behind him, and saw clear traces left on the gloves made of good alloys.
Dr. Kahn became even more fanatical, "Quickly, send it to my laboratory immediately. I can't wait to study it carefully."
Raul and others were already accustomed to Dr. Kahn's madness, expressionless, carried Li Tomb and the Terminator, followed Dr. Kahn, took the elevator, and went down to the third underground floor of the entire building.
"Okay, you guys go up. Leave the rest to me." Dr. Kahn opened the access control and did not let Raul and others enter his laboratory. He dragged Li Tomb and Terminator in by himself. "Unless those zombies have broken through the iron gate, don't disturb me."
Raul didn't care, but instead breathed a sigh of relief. He watched Dr. Kahn disappear behind the door, and then he breathed a sigh of relief, "Okay, the mission is over. Brothers, enjoy your vacation. Come on some whiskey?"
The people in the tactical team laughed, only Charlie was still looking at the laboratory door, and Raul reached out and patted Charlie, "Don't think too much, that's just a zombie."
"He's different, isn't he?" Charlie asked back.
As he said that, Charlie took a deep breath and rang the laboratory doorbell.
"Damn it, didn't I say not to disturb me?" Dr. Kahn opened the door and shouted in anger.
"Doctor. Can I know how you will study that zombie?" Charlie asked.
"Anatomy, electrolysis, culture medium, clinical experiments, etc., damn, I'll tell you what these!" Kahn grabbed his hair crazy and threw it to Raul a bottle of capsules, "Vitamin, let your people not forget to take it."
"Okay, I'm going to start working."
"Doctor. I want to tell you more about that zombie. He is different from other zombies..." Charlie told Kahn everything he had seen about Li Tomb.
Kahn was stunned for a moment, then became even more excited, "Very good. This is exactly what I need, is this pendant? I understand..."
"Doctor, don't you understand what I said? Is it possible that he has escaped the effects of the death virus, or that he is recovering. It's like a cold, isn't it also a virus? But we can always cure it, right?"
Charlie has been thinking about this idea since he met Li Tomb.
Will those zombies just get sick, just like they have the flu virus, as long as they can cure them, they can get better?
"Are you an idiot?"
Dr. Kahn became angry, "That's a straight-to-death virus. Hell, that's different from the flu. The straight-to-death virus has destroyed their genetic chains. They are no longer humans. Even if they have wisdom again, they are already different species."
At this moment, Charlie and the others were confused.
"Damn it, why should I explain this to you! Boy, please listen to me. Those zombies are no longer humans, they are not as simple as getting sick, their gene chains have been completely destroyed, and those zombies are now like trilobites, with only stress reactions left."
"Damn, don't tell me you don't know what stress reaction is!"
Dr. Kahn's voice became sharper.
"But it's still still a virus, isn't it?" Charlie asked in a daze, "Will you cure them by killing the virus and developing a vaccine? Just like the flu virus, like the SARS virus..."
"Damn, don't you understand what I said? They are no longer humans, and the death virus is not a hell of flu, SARS! It destroys not our immune system, but genes, genes!"
Dr. Kahn yelled as he got manic.
"I don't understand. But this is not what you should do. Isn't science exist because of this? Don't you think it's more important to find a way to cure them than to study any terminators?"
Charlie's eyes turned red as he spoke.
Raul and others stopped talking. After all, it would be perfect if they could be cured than killing those zombies. This idea is not only Charlie. In fact, many survivors would rather believe that those wandering zombies are sick patients than believe that those zombies are no longer humans, and their relatives have turned into monsters and demons.
"Damn, I'm too lazy to talk to you about this. Raul, the person who is optimistic about you, remember to ask him to take a few more vitamins. I suspect he is going to be infected by zombies. Cure those zombies? Idiot, that's already a matter of another species!"
Kahn sneered, it was rare to argue with Charlie again. Only by standing at the forefront of science can you know that zombies are definitely not as simple as being infected with a virus that is killed.
The genes of those zombies may mutate at any time and evolve into another completely different species. They are mutations at the genetic level and cannot be reversed. And most importantly, those zombies no longer have any thoughts and no reason, and only stress responses like trilobites are left.
Looking at the closed laboratory door, Charlie punched the wall with some disappointment, leaving blood behind, and Raul sighed and patted Charlie on the shoulder, "Don't think so much. Kahn and the others should be right. Those people can't come back."
After saying that, Raul opened the bottle, reached out to grab a capsule, a hint of disgust flashed in his eyes, swallowed it randomly, and gave each person in the tactical team another one, "Take the vitamin first, so as not to get really hot and get infected."
The other members of the tactical team laughed, looked at the vitamins in their hands, and a hint of disgust flashed in their eyes, and they swallowed them. Charlie also calmed down his emotions, but he didn't look like others. He swallowed the capsules indifferently. This vitamin was only developed by Dr. Kahn a month ago. It is said that it can prevent the infection of the virus from directly dying. Every time they go on a mission, they must take it when they come back.
I heard that the base has also started mass-producing this vitamin.
"I remember a long time ago, it was rumored that eating salt can prevent radiation. I thought it was nonsense, but now I can take vitamins to prevent the epidemic and kill the virus. In terms of calculation, eating salt can prevent radiation is not too exaggerated."
Raul smiled and joked, trying to ease the atmosphere.
Although the joke was cold enough, the atmosphere still calmed down a lot. Charlie smiled at Raul gratefully, "Boss, thank you."
Raul stopped talking, patted Charlie on the shoulder, and the group took the elevator to the second floor underground.
"Boss, you guys go and have a rest first, I'll go see John and the others."
Charlie spoke.
Raul nodded and threw a few cans to Charlie, "Come back early and rest."
Charlie nodded, pressed the elevator and went to the basement floor.
This temporary gathering place is based on the original underground laboratory. The third floor of the underground is Dr. Kahn's laboratory, the second floor of the underground is the base of Charlie and the tactical team. The first floor of the underground is left to some survivors who have been gathered by Raul and the others over the past month.
Most of the survivors from the gathering place where Charlie was before came here.
The sound of the elevator alarmed the survivors on the ground floor. When Charlie walked out, many people who knew Charlie immediately gathered up and asked in a verbal way.
"Charlie, when exactly will we move to the base?"
"Have Dr. Kahnna's research progressed?"
"Have you found a vaccine to cure the virus that is dead?"
...
Faced with the problems of these survivors, Charlie just shook his head, gave the cans given to several children by Raul, said a few words to the people he knew, glanced over the survivor, and asked, "Where is John? Why didn't I see him?"
"That's right. Yesterday John led us to the supermarket on campus to find food. When he came back, he accidentally fell down his leg. We sent him to Dr. Kahn for treatment. Didn't you see it?"
Someone explained that although these people were rescued by Charlie's tactical team, as the number of people increased, Charlie and the others did not retain much food, and many times they still needed to rely on their own.
Fortunately, the entire campus of RIM Polytechnic University was swept by Charlie and others, so there would not be too much danger.
Charlie shook his head, "I get it, I'll go see him later."
"By the way. I always feel like there are a lot of people missing, where is Tom and Jerry?"
Charlie asked, these two people were also familiar to him, and they both lived in the same gathering place for a while.
The crowd suddenly became quiet. After a while, someone sighed, "Die."
"Didn't Tom get injured at that time? He was infected, so did Jerry."
Charlie opened his mouth and wanted to say anything, but couldn't say anything. This damn doomsday, today or tomorrow, separation from life and death, even if he was used to it, it still made people feel so nervous.
Waving his hand powerlessly, Charlie realized that the atmosphere instantly became stagnant with just one word from him, and a woman started crying immediately.
Charlie knew that woman and knew that she was Jerry's wife. Both of them survived. It can be said that Charlie was envious in the small gathering place. After all, in the end, there are only a few people who can survive hand in hand.
How many people lost their parents, their wives and children, their lovers, and their friends in that short hour. But they didn't expect that even if they escaped that catastrophe, they still live to this day and live and die.
Thinking of this, Charlie was not interested in staying here anymore. "You must be careful to close the iron gates of the building. I will mention it with the boss tomorrow and sweep the nearby area. Then you will find food and it will be safer."
